Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung has expressed sadness over the death of former international Kelechi Emetole after a protracted illness.

Emeteole, who won 17 caps for the Senior National Team then known as the Green Eagles, died Wednesday in India where he had gone for throat cancer surgery.

Dalung sympathized with the family of the deceased, the Nigeria Football Federation and the entire football community over the unfortunate incident.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF said it is shocked at news of the death of Emetole, who was a one-time Head Coach of the Super Sand Eagles.

NFF lamented that after losing two football icons Stephen Keshi and Shaibu Amodu in June last year, Nigeria has lost another legend in Emetole.
