The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC says it has outlined plans to establish a security advisory council to tackle pipeline vandalism in the oil and gas industry.
A statement issued by Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamadu, stated that the security advisory council will bring a lasting solution to security challenges affecting the nation’s oil sector.
The statement quoted the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, as saying that there was need to evolve new measures to bring an end to pipeline vandalism which is a major threat to the nation’s economy.
According to the statement, Baru said the security advisory council would involve critical stakeholders including security agencies, Niger Delta leaders, as well as international oil companies.
The NNPC boss further explained that the selected stakeholders under the mandate of the security advisory council, will address all security and host community agitations in the region.
