The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed six of its men over involvement in unethical practices during the Rivers parliamentary re-run election.
Force Public Relations Officer Don Awunah speaking at a news conference in Abuja said the men engaged in unprofessional and overzealous conduct when they were in the convoy of Rivers state Governor, Niyesom Wike on the day of elections.
The affected officers are Inspector Eyong Victor, Sergeants Peter Ekpo and Oguni Goodluck, Orji Nwoke, Okpe Ezekiel and Tanko Akor.
Awunah said after conclusion of investigations into their misconduct, they were subjected to internal disciplinary measures, found guilty, and consequently dismissed.
The force spokesman added that the dismissed officers will be prosecuted under the Electoral Act to serve as a deterrent to others.
