Nigeria’s Adesina named World Food Prize Laureate

President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has been named the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate at a ceremony at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Adesina was the Minister of Agriculture under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The President of the Foundation, Kenneth Quinn, while presenting the award, said Adesina won the prize for driving change in African agriculture for over 25 years and improving food security for millions across the continent.He added that Adesina used his academic exposure to lift up millions of people out of poverty, especially farmers in rural Africa.

Meanwhile, Adesina said that an American agronomist and humanitarian, Norman Borlaug was a great mentor and inspiration to him.
